Alaskan Adventure: Day 38. Awesome boat trip from Haines to Juneau, Alaska (and then back to Haines). Incredible views while on the boat. God’s handiwork in the seas, the mountains, and the animals all around us. Birds, Whales, Seal Lions, Sea Otter, and more.
Waiting for the Fjordland Express Boat to arrive. Daisies on the bank of the Fjord by the harbor.
Haines Harbor
The Fjiordland Express boat was really fast and Captain Glenn found lots of wildlife for us! 65′ long with twin 600hp engines.
I don’t know what kind of bird this is but they followed alongside the boat on the way out of the harbor.
Sea Lions, lots of Sea Lions.
Bald Eagle
Alaskan Marine Highway Ferry Boat. This one is going north to Haines/Skagway as we went south to Juneau.
Alaskan Marine Highway Ferry Boat. This one is going south to Juneau as we went north back to Haines.
Lots of fishing boats out catching salmon.
Hump Back Whale.
Sea Otter.
Sea Otter. Captain Glenn said it was very unusual to find a Sea Otter in the Lynn Canal Fjord.
Maybe Seals? (as opposed to all the others that were Sea Lions).
Coming into Auk Harbor (near Juneau) we were introduced to Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht “Wingman” and his support ship “toy hauler” called “Launch Pad” with helicopter and such…
In Juneau, we looked for someplace to eat lunch indoors because it was cold, windy, and sprinkling occasionally. We ended up in the Red Dog Saloon.
Enjoying lunch at the Red Dog with Mike and Amy.
Enormous Princess cruise ship in port.
Leaving dock at Juneau we were graced with a rainbow.
Another lighthouse. I don’t remember the name of this one.
Seals.
More Sea Lions.
The really windy seat at the back of the boat. Cindy and Bernadette, and Joe. Bernadette and Joe are our “Wagon Masters” for the group of adventurers.

Joe took this photo of me hanging out on the back of the boat taking pics of the rainbow and hoping for a whale to show up…
Glaciers and waterfalls are all along the Fjord.
That’s it for a great day viewing God’s awesome creation. The boat trip to-and-from Juneau was great. The town of Juneau itself is somewhat of a mystery to me. The largest Capital city by size of any State but you can’t drive to it…
June 9th was a rest and work on photos day. Tomorrow we have maybe the longest travel day of the trip at 294 miles. The first half of the trip is beautiful as we retrace the Haines Highway from Haines back up to the Yukon and Haines Junction. At that point we rejoin the Alaskan Highway and head north. By all reports the road is bad from Haines Junction to Beaver Creek. About 150 miles at 35mph or less.
